NORD extends heavy-duty reach with MAXXDRIVE gear range

The industrial gear unit family covers torques up to 282,000 Nm across four application-specific variants.

NORD DRIVESYSTEMS is positioning its MAXXDRIVE industrial gear series for continuous heavy-duty roles — the kind of load-handling seen in container cranes, quarry conveyors and biogas fermenters, where a gear failure halts the entire operation.

The range, first introduced in 2009, spans torques from 6,800 to 282,000 Nm. Right-angle units cover 1.5 to 2,150 kW and parallel-shaft units go up to 6,000 kW, a spread wide enough for most bulk-handling and process-drive duties.

Central to the design is NORD’s one-piece UNICASE housing, machined in a single operation so the bearing seats align precisely — which the company claims lowers assembly error and extends service life. Large roller bearings and case-hardened gearwheels handle the wear and vibration of sustained load.

The series splits into four variants: the XC for mixers and agitators, the XD for lifting gear, the XJ for tight crane installations, and the XT, thermally optimised for belt conveyors without external cooling. Modular options — reinforced bearings, drum couplings, brakes — let buyers source a complete drive package from one supplier.
