KUKA Robotics has introduced iiQKA.AI Vision, a new AI-powered vision software designed to simplify image processing and integration with industrial robots. This solution for 2D and 3D vision applications, like bin picking, assembly line inspection, and depalletizing, allows producers to automate operations that require specific expertise. The program is integrated with KUKA’s iiQKA ecosystem; it has an interface that makes it easier to set up.
An important feature of the program is its edge computing architecture. The image processing procedure takes place via KUKA AI Extension Platform, which is compliant with NVIDIA Jetson Orin. Thus, the AI inference is integrated within the program itself and does not need to rely on the use of cloud services and other hardware.
Local processing to great extent decreases the latency, as well as the installation process and increases the security and safer storage of images. The company claims that the solution reduces dependence on other devices and networks and hence helps save costs .
The software is using AI algorithms to define different objects in the background and understand the orientation of the objects, as well as the places where gripping of them can be carried out.
Integration with KUKA’s iiQWorks engineering environment and robot controller claims to provide a unified workflow from configuration to deployment. A web interface to support centralized management and monitoring. The launch suggests making machine vision more accessible to manufacturers and system integrators.
