Parker Hannifin has released a line of stainless-steel hand valves for industrial refrigeration systems. The valves extend the company’s existing range of carbon-steel hand valves and refrigeration components. They are being sold in North America and Latin America.
The line includes both angle and globe valves, in shut-off and hand expansion versions. The valves connect by socket weld or butt weld. The announcement does not give the line a series name.
The key specifications are:
| Specification | Value |
| Standard sizes | 15 mm to 150 mm (½” to 6″) |
| Sizes on request | Up to 400 mm (16″) |
| Pressure rating | 25 barg (362 psig) |
| Temperature range | -60°C to +150°C (-76°F to +302°F) |
| Body material | Stainless steel |
| Refrigerants | Ammonia, CO₂ and other common refrigerants
|
The temperature range spans 210 degrees Celsius, from 60 below zero to 150 above. That means one valve family can be specified for both the low-temperature and high-temperature parts of a system. Sizes above 150 mm are made to order, with 400 mm the stated maximum.
For plant engineers and refrigeration contractors, the main change is choice of material. Until now, the company’s hand-valve offer for this market centred on carbon steel. Stainless steel is offered here for its corrosion resistance, and it comes with the same choice of angle or globe body, shut-off or expansion function, and weld type. Ammonia and CO₂ are named among the refrigerants the valves can handle.
Hand valves are the manually operated points in a refrigeration circuit, used to isolate sections or set flow by hand. Material, pressure rating and temperature range decide where in a circuit a valve can go. A stainless option with a 25 barg rating and a range down to -60°C gives specifiers another way to meet corrosion and temperature needs with a single valve family.
