Elektrobit and Microchip Technology are working together so that carmakers and suppliers using Microchip’s automotive hardware get AUTOSAR software that is already integrated. Elektrobit will provide Microcontroller Abstraction Layer (MCAL) software from its EB tresos portfolio, pre-fitted to Microchip platforms
Elektrobit’s EB tresos AutoCore OS and AutoCore Generic modules run on Microchip’s SAMA5 series of microprocessors, and customers can adopt them right away.
For OEMs and Tier 1 suppliers, this means less integration work. The MCAL is the layer that lets higher-level AUTOSAR software talk to a specific chip. Getting it running is usually a project in its own right. With that layer pre-integrated, the companies say development teams carry less risk and can get to application work sooner.
The companies are targeting fast-growing automotive segments in Asia, including two-wheelers. The companies also point to wider opportunities in Asia and North America. For Indian readers, the two-wheeler focus is the detail to watch, given how large that segment is in the region the companies are targeting first.
As more of a vehicle’s functions shift into software with growing move to software-defined vehicles., OEMs and suppliers are under pressure to shorten development cycles without giving up on safety, quality or flexibility and would value the integration this announcement offers..
