Contrinex makes sensors used in factory automation. Its range includes inductive position sensors, photoelectric position sensors and smart measurement sensors with logic built in. The company supplies sensors for harsh operating environments and for miniature precision-positioning work.
Nordson Corporation has completed its acquisition of Contrinex, a sensor maker based in Corminboeuf, Switzerland. Contrinex will become part of Nordson’s Advanced Technology Solutions segment.
The business will sit alongside the existing test and inspection portfolio , it complements its offering of inspection equipment checks products, while Contrinex’s sensors detect position and take measurements on machines and production lines.
For Nordson, the deal raises its exposure to industrial automation. The release points to the growing use of sensors in factory automation, machine control and smart manufacturing as the trend it wants a bigger share of. Contrinex’s products are used in all three areas.
For machine builders and plant engineers, the change is one of ownership and not really the product on offer, at least initially. Contrinex’s inductive, photoelectric and smart measurement sensors now come from a larger group with operations and support offices in more than 35 countries.
Suppliers of inspection, dispensing and measurement equipment are adding the sensing layer that tells a machine where a part is and what condition it is in.
