What happened:
Swiss industrial technology group Feintool has announced the opening of its first manufacturing plant in India, a crucial step in its India expansion plans. Located in Pune, one of India’s key automotive manufacturing hubs, the plant has already started ramping up production and is fulfilling initial customer orders.
This facility will be mainly dedicated to fineblanked automotive components production, which are metal parts produced by fineblanking, a technology that produces high precision metal parts and whose automotive use is growing.
Why it matters:
The investments from global car manufacturers and suppliers continue to be attractive for the automotive industry in India as the industry is moving towards localization and vehicle manufacturing is increasing. This is why many international companies are scaling up their operations in the country and seeking suppliers that can complement the country’s production, which is nearer to their manufacturing plant.
Industry context:
India has become one of the world’s biggest automotive markets and is rapidly becoming one of the largest manufacturing and export hubs for the automotive industry. As this growth happens, there are opportunities for advanced manufacturing technologies and precision engineering component suppliers. Currently, Feintool is based in Europe, Asia and North America and has manufacturing facilities in all these regions, with the know-how of fineblanking, cold forming and e-lamination stamping technologies.
The Pune plant is likely to enhance the company’s presence in Asia and will help its customers expand their manufacturing operations in India. The plant will initially be based on automotive seating system components, but the company has said it will look at other potential applications like cold forming, electric motor components and hydrogen. The site will be designed for future growth, to accommodate market demand.
The launch edition aligns with the increasing trend among global manufacturers to add a manufacturing facility in India, aiming to be nearer to customers and to exploit one of the world’s fastest growing industrial markets.
