What happened: APSEZ expanded its partnership with US-based Kaleris to deploy an AI-augmented operating platform across 15 container terminals in nine ports. The multi-year deal builds on a first phase that covers six ports.
Why it matters: Kaleris’ Advanced Optimization is expected to improve Rubber Tyred Gantry crane productivity by up to 20% and terminal truck productivity by up to 14%. APSEZ expects to unlock 91 million tonnes of additional capacity, about 10% of installed capacity, by 2030.
Industry context: APSEZ plans to invest USD 850 million in technology and decarbonisation, including up to USD 100 million in two phases tied to the Kaleris work. The N4 Terminal Operating System will expand to improve yard use, vessel turnaround, and planning accuracy. The operator targets one billion tonnes of annual cargo by 2030.
Our take: Running one operating system across terminals creates a single digital backbone, which should aid consistency as APSEZ scales volume.
