What happened: Horse Powertrain, via its Aurobay Technologies division, has launched an upgraded HORSE V20, a 2.0-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine. In two variants – a 400-volt plug-in hybrid and a 48-volt mild hybrid , production began on a new dedicated assembly line at the Skövde plant in Sweden.
Why it matters: The plug-in variant cuts fuel use by seven percent versus the engine it replaces. Both versions meet tighter emissions rules in the U.S., Europe, and China, and are designed to help automakers comply. The shared platform lowers material cost, adding economic value for customers.
Industry context: The plug-in version carries hardware changes including a modified crankshaft-mounted starter-generator, a high-position mechanical water pump, and a re-routed cooling system. Further upgrades include a new multi-injection fuel system, a new engine management system, and a redesigned air induction system. The Skövde site exports to customers across Europe, the US, and Asia.
