The National Advanced Functional Fiber Innovation Center ( NAFFIC ) and Dutch traceability platform AWARE have launched the first China-Europe Digital Product Passport for textiles, addressing incoming EU mandatory requirements set for 2027.
The blockchain-verified passport traces a complete recycled polyester supply chain from post-consumer plastic bottles through processing, yarn spinning, fabric weaving, and garment manufacturing. Each production step records on public blockchain, accessible via QR code to consumers, regulators, and brands worldwide.
The DPP follows a supply chain path: bottles collected and processed into flakes via NAFFIC’s Sustainable Textiles Credible Platform, spun into yarn by Jiangsu Reborn Eco-Tech, woven by Wujiang City Chaodai Textiles, and manufactured into finished garments by Suzhou Qiandai Life Technology Development for European brand Iqoniq.
The collaboration inverts traditional supply chain dynamics. Chinese producers become originators of trusted compliance data that European brands require, rather than waiting for brand audits and approval processes. From 2027, every textile entering Europe must carry verified material origin and production journey proof.
The system employs Crypto TC transaction certificates, blockchain-issued and automatically generated at no additional cost per transaction. The approach eliminates third-party fees, waiting times, and administrative burden while providing transparent, independently verifiable data.
Materials manufactured today reach European consumers as finished products within one to three years. Chinese producers building data infrastructure now helps them position as preferred suppliers for European brands facing mandatory compliance deadlines.
