In high-speed manufacturing, a few microseconds can separate a precise operation from wasted material. OMRON is targeting that gap with its new NX-CT High-Speed Counter Unit, designed to make machine-level control decisions faster than conventional PLC scan-based approaches.
Launched by OMRON Automation Americas, the NX-CT is built for applications including liquid filling, dispensing, inspection triggering and laser processing, where timing directly affects process accuracy.
Its key capability is counter-match output within 1 microsecond. Instead of waiting for a PLC scan cycle to process a high-speed event, the NX-CT handles the signal at the I/O level and triggers the required output almost immediately. OMRON says this can improve repeatability in applications such as filling and inspection and reduces process variation.
The unit also includes an Advance Time function. That allows machine builders to compensate for response delays from devices such as valves and lasers. In practical terms, the controller can issue a command earlier to account for the time an actuator needs to respond.
