Factory controllers are being asked to do more than keep machines running. As plants become more connected, they also have to process larger volumes of data and share it reliably with systems higher up the stack. Fuji Electric is addressing that shift with its new XCS-5000 controller, launched for monitoring and control systems.
The controller is designed to combine high-speed processing with the reliability expected in industrial plants. Compared with previous models, Fuji says the XCS-5000 doubles input/output memory capacity, delivers up to 10 times the command processing speed, three times the application execution performance and eight times the Ethernet communication performance.
The bigger change, however, is connectivity. The XCS-5000 includes an OPC UA server as a standard feature, giving plant equipment a common route to exchange data with IT systems, MES platforms and other applications. OPC UA is an established industrial interoperability standard designed for secure, vendor-independent communication across devices and systems.
That matters as manufacturers try to connect operational technology with wider digital infrastructure without compromising plant stability.
Fuji has also built in long-term data storage through SD cards, allowing operating information and events to be retained for analysis. An error-correction function is designed to detect and correct bit errors in processor and memory systems, helping reduce the risk of unexpected failures caused by electrical noise.
