Combating plastic pollution in rivers through inventive waste-management solutions is the focus of RiverRecycle, a Finnish startup whose proprietary river-debris concentrator technologies, including static booms and automated wheels, collect floating plastic waste before it reaches the oceans. Established in 2019, it processes collected waste through mechanical and chemical recycling, producing RiverRecycle Boards and raw materials such as oil for industrial use. Operating in countries such as India, Indonesia, the Philippines, and Ghana, it has collected more than four million kilograms of waste, with a capacity of 80 metric tonnes a month, and it collaborates with local communities to create jobs in support of circular-economy principles and global sustainability goals. Notable partnerships include the Asian Development Bank and HCL Foundation, with recognition from awards such as the Plastics Recycling Awards Europe.
