Axiro Semiconductor is a subsidiary of CG Power and Industrial Solutions. They have invested in US-based ThinSiC as lead investors to advance silicon carbide (SiC) power semiconductor technology. The new partnership focuses on industrial use cases such as motor drive systems, traction railways and power grid infrastructure projects.
Advanced power semiconductors – importance of SiC semiconductors in industrial automation is growing. As they work at higher voltages and temperatures leading overall to lower levels of energy wastages.
High cost of production has limited their use to a large extent and to meet this challenge, ThinSiC is creating a cost-effective platform for the production of SiC power electronics. This is aimed at improving productivity in the manufacturing of high voltage power semiconductors and rendering them affordable for industrial applications.
For manufacturers, the introduction of SiC power electronics will allow for the development of more effective motor drives, converters and electro-mechanical equipment.
