Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), a public-sector aerospace and defense enterprise under the Ministry of Defence, was founded in 1940 and is headquartered in Bengaluru. Holding Maharatna status, HAL designs and produces fighter aircraft such as the LCA Tejas and Su-30 MKI, helicopters including the Dhruv ALH and LCH, jet engines, and avionics for the Indian Air Force, Navy, and Army. It runs 11 R&D centers and 21 manufacturing divisions, handles military aircraft upgrades, and exports to Southeast Asia and West Asia. Operating within India, HAL also intends to establish logistics bases in Indonesia, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, and Vietnam.
