Founded in 2018, Excir is a Canadian cleantech company specialising in the sustainable extraction and recycling of precious metals from electronic waste, spent catalysts, and mining sources. Its patented lixiviant-based technology recovers more than 99% of gold, silver, palladium, and copper from e-waste materials such as printed circuit boards in seconds at room temperature - using an eco-friendly, recyclable solution with negligible environmental impact. The process is notably in operation through a partnership with The Royal Mint at a 3,700-square-metre Precious Metals Recovery factory in South Wales, running since August 2024 and capable of processing up to 4,000 tonnes of PCBs annually. Spent catalysts (catalytic converters among them) are another focus area, and the company is developing mining solutions to replace cyanide-based methods. The technology supports a circular economy, with traceable, ethically sourced metals reaching applications in jewellery, electronics, and industrial sectors.
