Boston Dynamics Turns Hyundai’s Plant Into a Training Ground for Atlas

Humanoid robots are moving from controlled demonstrations to the factory floor. Boston Dynamics is taking that step with the opening of its Robotics Metaplant Application Center (RMAC) at Hyundai Motor Group Metaplant America (HMGMA) in Georgia.

The facility is being used to train and validate Atlas in actual automotive manufacturing conditions, its first tasks include preparing and sequencing automotive parts before they reach assembly. The roadmap then moves toward component assembly by 2030, alongside repetitive and physically demanding work such as lifting heavy loads.

Atlas can be tested against real workflows, while operational data helps refine how the robot performs in manufacturing environments.

Hyundai Motor Group is already planning for scale. The Group has announced plans to deploy 25,000 Atlas robots across Hyundai and Kia plants over the coming years and establish U.S. production capacity for up to 30,000 robots annually.
