Tata Consultancy Services Opens Pune Lab to Model Fully Autonomous Factory Operations

Tata Consultancy Services has launched the Industrial Autonomy & Engineering Lab – Lights-Out Factory at its Sahyadri Park campus in Pune. Positioned as India’s first lights-out factory lab, the site houses a fully robotic battery pack assembly line covering multiple production stages. It runs on the TCS Human+AI Service Autonomy Model to simulate self-optimising factory operations.

The facility lets manufacturers prototype, validate and scale AI-first production systems in a live environment. Customers get a controlled setting to test industrial scenarios, check production readiness and cut deployment risk. It targets a core gap in the sector: turning Industry 4.0, AI and robotics concepts into working operating models.

The Pune site combines digital twins, robotics, industrial AI, factory control systems and real-time operational intelligence. Supported use cases include predictive maintenance, automated quality inspection, real-time process optimisation, human-machine collaboration and autonomous factory operations. Capability areas also cover vision AI, sensor-to-cloud intelligence and software-defined engineering. The launch follows the earlier opening of the TCS Industrial Autonomy & Engineering Lab powered by NVIDIA in Bengaluru, focused on Physical AI for industrial and mobility applications.

The lab moves the IT services major deeper into applied industrial AI. It also gives the company a domestic demonstration site to convert manufacturer interest in autonomous production into structured pilots.
