What happened:
Four out of five (80%) ICS systems are targeted by cyber threats within India. In Q1 of 2026 there was an increase in incidents related to cybersecurity challenges; therefore necessitating the need for further awareness around the growing threat to manufacturing operations using industrial control system (ICS) networks.
Why it Matters?
Industrial control systems (ICS) are the backbone of every manufacturing plant. As such when they are compromised from a cyberattack it can have tremendous disruption impacts through lost production time, and may lead to increased safety risks; as manufacturers continue to utilize more advanced smart manufacturing technologies and connected devices. Cybersecurity is becoming a priority as companies find themselves pressed to protect their ICS network from potential attacks.
Industry context:
Manufacturing remains one of the most targeted sectors for cybercriminals. Many industrial facilities still operate with older systems. The growing popularity of remote access tools, and the Internet of Things, has led to an increase in the number of entry points for potential attackers.
The report also discusses a new trend in the way that cybersecurity has increasingly been treated as more than just an IT issue. Due to the increase in connections between companies and their industrial environments, many companies are starting to spend more on setting up security solutions that will protect their digital and physical assets. Experts believe that organizations need to regularly update systems. They need to continuously monitor systems. This is because they need to be prepared for evolving cyberthreats.
