Google DeepMind was founded in 2010 by Demis Hassabis, Shane Legg, and Mustafa Suleyman, and operates as a British-American AI research laboratory headquartered in London. Research centres extend to the US, Canada, France, Germany, and Switzerland. Google acquired the lab in 2014 for around $500M, and the 2023 merger with Google Brain formed Google DeepMind - now a subsidiary of Alphabet Inc. The lab develops AI models including Gemini 2.5 Pro (coding and reasoning), AlphaFold (protein structure prediction), and AlphaCode (competitive programming). Robotics efforts include Gemini Robotics for next-generation robots and TacticAI for sports analytics.
