Fishy Filaments, set up in 2017, transforms end-of-life fishing nets into high-quality, low-carbon PA6 (nylon) materials for 3D printing, driving innovation in additive manufacturing. Based in Newlyn, Cornwall, the company recycles discarded monofilament nets into premium 3D printer filaments (e.g., Porthcurno, 100% recycled nylon) and pellets (e.g., OrCA®, 90% nylon with 10% recycled carbon) through its proprietary Probabilistic Shaped Particle Cleaning® process. These materials are used in diverse applications, from sunglasses to racecar components. Partnering with Fillamentum, Fishy Filaments ensures material quality via a deployable recycling plant housed in a 40ft container. Embedded in fishing communities, it promotes a circular economy, collaborating with local fisheries and global clients. Recognized with the 2024 3D Printing Industry News award for Sustainability in Additive Manufacturing, Fishy Filaments advances sustainable production with a mission to achieve nation-scale carbon emissions impact.
