Bajaj Auto Elevates Rakesh Sharma to JMD

Bajaj Auto has promoted Rakesh Sharma to Joint Managing Director, effective June 1, 2026. The appointment runs until March 31, 2029, pending shareholder approval.
Sharma joined Bajaj Auto in October 2007 as President of International Business, building the company’s presence across Africa, Latin America, and Asia.
His new role adds two critical functions to his portfolio: Digital & IT and Legal. The move signals Bajaj’s intent to integrate digital transformation with core business operations rather than treating it as a support function.
Sharma holds an MBA from IIM Ahmedabad and brings over 40 years of professional experience which should come in handy as it navigates greater operational complexity as the automotive sector shifts toward electrification and software.
