Comau and Reis Robotics Form European Automation Alliance

Italian automation giant Comau and Germany’s Reis Robotics signed a cooperation deal targeting shipbuilding, giga casting, battery production, and critical infrastructure projects across Europe.

Reis Robotics brings open robot control software that connects production systems. Comau supplies welding automation, collaborative robots, and global manufacturing reach. The German firm, owned by Cocchi Technology since 1957, specializes in automotive foundry and metal processing.

The partnership directly addresses automation gaps in sectors traditional robotics can’t easily crack. Shipyards need flexible systems that adapt to changing hull designs. Giga casting foundries demand precision at extreme temperatures. Battery lines require contamination-free handling across multiple cell chemistries.

Both companies will co-develop scalable systems beyond their automotive comfort zones. Germany’s industrial market serves as the testing ground before expansion into broader European territories where conventional automation approaches struggle with complex, multi-step processes.
