Honeywell introduced an optical sensor designed to detect flammable hydrocarbons in harsh industrial environments. The 4-Series NDIR (non-dispersive infrared) Hydrocarbon Gas Sensor targets methane, propane and butane detection across mining, oil and gas, and petrochemical facilities.
NDIR technology resists poisoning from harsh conditions. An integrated condensation reduction system maintains performance in humid spaces and confined areas like refineries.
The sensor integrates into fixed installations and portable detectors carried by field workers. Infrared technology also consumes less power than conventional flammable gas sensors, extending battery life in portable units.
Honeywell designed the sensor for exposure to dust, methane leaks, and extreme temperature fluctuations between indoor and outdoor environments. The system reduces false positives while maintaining reliability under operational stress.
Industrial safety depends on sensor accuracy and consistency, and this push is aligned to further technology that strengthens protection in sectors critical to global infrastructure.
