What happened:
Optiemus Electronics has entered into a manufacturing partnership with Quectel IoT Technologies. They produce advanced wireless communication modules in India. The modules, which include automotive, 5G, 4G, Cat-1, and other cellular connectivity products. This will be manufactured at Optiemus’ facility in Noida. The agreement aims to localize production of
critical communication hardware. This hardware is used in connected devices and digital infrastructure.
Why it matters:
The partnership is helping India become self-reliant in manufacturing electronic devices. Besides, this will reduce the need of foreign-manufactured components of electronic devices to a certain extent. Apart from this, production in the home is expected to further reinforce the supply-chain as an added benefit.
Industry Context
There is an increase in demand for IoT as well as wireless communication device modules. This is because industries are increasingly adopting connected technologies. These modules serve as the backbone of applications. India’s electronics manufacturing sector has witnessed a surge in
localization efforts. This is because global technology firms seek to diversify supply chains. This will align with initiatives such as “Make in India” and “Atmanirbhar Bharat.”
The collaboration also reflects a broader trend of producing high-value technology components domestically. By bringing advanced communication module production to India, Optiemus and Quectel aim to support next-generation connectivity requirements. The move is expected to benefit industries.
