What happened: A control platform that uses AI to recommend and automate operating decisions inside process plants. The system was trialled live at Borouge International’s Ruwais site in Abu Dhabi.
Why it matters: The platform is designed to catch and resolve abnormal plant conditions before they turn into incidents, lowering error rates and unplanned downtime. During pilot runs, it flagged developing problems several minutes ahead of conventional alarms. Honeywell positions the deployment as the first of its kind to run autonomous operations in a working petrochemical environment.
Industry context: The platform shifts judgment-heavy monitoring tasks to AI agents, allowing newer staff to operate complex units with greater confidence. Experion Cognition runs within Honeywell’s existing Experion control architecture, so it can slot into current control rooms.
