What happened:
Aeva has licensed the Cadence Tensilica Vision DSP from Cadence Design Systems for signal processing in its 4D LiDAR systems used in industrial robotics and automotive applications.
The DSP provides high-performance, low-power processing and can be customized for different sensing and perception workloads.
Why it matters: LiDAR systems generate large amounts of sensor data that must be processed quickly and efficiently. Cadence’s Tensilica DSP architecture is already widely used in ADAS, radar, and vision applications, making it well-suited for real-time AI-driven sensing systems.
The configurable architecture also gives Aeva flexibility to optimize performance for different applications while maintaining power efficiency.
Industry context:
Demand for efficient edge AI and real-time perception systems is growing across robotics and autonomous vehicle markets. LiDAR processing requires a balance between computing performance, low latency, and power consumption, especially for edge deployments.
Our take:
By licensing an established DSP platform instead of building its own processor, Aeva can focus on optimizing LiDAR performance while reducing development complexity and improving scalability across applications.
