Rolls-Royce MT30 to Power Australia’s Mogami-Class Frigate Fleet

Australia’s Royal Navy has selected the Rolls-Royce MT30 marine gas turbine to power its next generation of general-purpose frigates, based on Japan’s upgraded Mogami-class design. Up to 11 ships will receive the engine, supporting undersea warfare and air defence roles. The choice creates commonality across Australia’s naval fleet as the MT30 already powers the Hunter-class frigates and Japan’s Mogami-class platforms, simplifying maintenance and spare parts logistics.
