Tenable removes the need for Dedicated Hardware to OT Security

Tenable has overhauled how operational technology assets get discovered  and removed the biggest obstacle in the process: the need for dedicated hardware.

The company’s new OT asset discovery engine is built directly into its existing vulnerability management platforms, meaning Tenable One, Vulnerability Management, and Security Center customers get the capability without deploying sensors or specialised hardware. That’s a significant shift from traditional OT security approaches, which typically required lengthy hardware rollouts and dedicated software stacks before a single asset could be identified.

Early deployments tell a revealing story: organisations uncovered between 100 and 1,000-plus previously unknown OT and IoT assets — some carrying critical vulnerabilities. The engine surfaces vendor details, firmware versions, backplane specifications, and device running states, all without disrupting operations.
