SiLC Technologies has released the Eyeonic Trace Ultra — a laser line scanner that achieves 100-micron range precision, the approximate thickness of a human hair. That’s three times sharper than its predecessor, in the same compact form factor.
The sensor operates across any lighting condition, has a five-metre working range, and uses Class 1 eye-safe technology. It’s also immune to cross-talk — a practical advantage in factory environments where multiple sensors run simultaneously.
The accuracy jump is meaningful. Automotive lines can now automatically detect fine scratches, minor dents, and tight alignment tolerances on moving parts without manual inspection. And because the field of view is wide, fewer sensors are needed per installation.
Trace Ultra is backward compatible with the original Eyeonic Trace — existing deployments can upgrade without redesigning layouts. Evaluation units are available now. SiLC is also working on an area scanner to extend the platform’s capabilities beyond line scanning.
