What happened:
L&T Technology Services (LTTS) has launched Ainfonix 4.0, a platform that enables the process industry companies to harness engineering data which is often locked in drawings, specifications, reports, and technical records.
The platform, which was unveiled during LTTS’ EI Live event, leverages AI to identify and rationalize information within engineering documents to help teams locate and utilize critical information across a plant’s lifecycle.
Why it matters:
While much of the work of many industrial firms has been digitized over the years, there are significant chunks of engineering knowledge that still exist in PDFs, drawings, spreadsheets, and legacy systems. This means that engineers waste a lot of time looking for information rather than putting it into practice.
The challenge is magnified when companies are looking into applications of AI. AI systems only work as well as the information they have; and incomplete or disjointed engineering information can constrain the benefit of automation and analytics projects.
Industry context:
In the oil and gas, chemicals, power and manufacturing sectors, there is a need to enhance asset performance in the face of increasingly complex operations. This has led to an increasing interest in technologies that can be used to organize and contextualize engineering information rather than just gather more data.
According to LTTS, early deployments of Ainfonix 4.0 have contributed to their customers’ faster document retrieval and enhanced data accuracy. The launch also underscores a larger paradigm shift in the discussions about industrial AI; moving from model development to the supporting engineering data being trustworthy enough to support the models.
