Solvay expands IMI partnership to scale industrial IoT deployment

Solvay expands IMI partnership to scale industrial IoT deployment

What happened:
Solvay has extended its global framework agreement with IMI to increase deployment of connected sensors across its manufacturing sites. More than 5,000 sensors are already installed across 25 sites in 11 countries. The company plans to expand this to 9,000 sensors by 2027.

Why it matters:
The sensors monitor vibration and temperature on critical equipment, enabling continuous asset tracking and early fault detection. This supports a shift from time-based to data-driven maintenance. The approach aims to reduce breakdowns, lower repair costs, and improve operational efficiency.

Industry context:
The deployment reflects broader adoption of Industrial IoT in process industries to improve reliability and reduce downtime. Predictive maintenance is replacing periodic inspection models as companies seek cost and energy efficiency.

Our take:
Digital sensor networks are becoming standard across global manufacturing operations. The focus remains on operational reliability and cost control through real-time data.
