Germany-based measurement technology manufacturer VEGA Grieshaber KG has acquired Akenza AG, an enterprise IoT platform vendor headquartered in Zurich. The deal pairs VEGA’s process automation portfolio with Akenza’s device-agnostic IoT platform. Akenza will continue to operate independently in the market and retain its existing customer accounts.
The combination targets end-to-end IoT delivery from a single source. VEGA plans to progressively integrate the Akenza platform into its expanded solutions range, extending its Industrial IoT business. For Akenza, the transaction opens access to VEGA’s international footprint across more than 80 countries and over 2,800 employees worldwide.
VEGA supplies sensors for level, point level, and pressure measurement, with hardware and software used in chemicals, food and beverages, pharmaceuticals, water and wastewater, and mining. Akenza’s platform connects and manages IoT devices irrespective of protocol or vendor, serving Smart Industry and Smart Commercial Real Estate deployments. The combined offering aims to close the gap between sensor data capture and operational decision-making, with continued expansion in Smart Industry use cases and the Smart Building vertical.
This is coming together of a hardware specialist and a horizontal software layer, a structure increasingly common as industrial vendors push beyond point products. How cleanly the platform integrates will determine the impact of this transaction.
