Samsung Electronics and five affiliates will invest a combined $1 billion in Helix Digital Infrastructure, a U.S.-based AI infrastructure company established by KKR in June.
Samsung Electronics will provide $500 million, with Samsung C&T, Samsung SDS, Samsung SDI, Samsung Life Insurance and Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance contributing the remaining $500 million. Helix was launched with more than $10 billion in committed capital and brings together data center development, power generation and transmission, and connectivity infrastructure for hyperscalers.
Nvidia, the Kuwait Investment Authority and U.S. power company Vistra are among its founding investors. Samsung’s commitment takes Helix’s secured capital above $11 billion. What makes Samsung’s investment interesting is the range of capabilities it can bring to the platform. Samsung Electronics has semiconductor expertise and is expanding its data center cooling business through FläktGroup.
Samsung C&T brings construction and engineering capabilities, Samsung SDS works across data center design and operations, while Samsung SDI has battery and backup-power technologies. That gives Samsung a role across several layers of an AI facility.
Data centers need land, power, cooling, networks and reliable backup systems before GPUs can do any useful work. Helix is designed around that problem, acting as a single platform for hyperscalers that need large-scale infrastructure delivered quickly.
