Bosch Rexroth has expanded its collaboration with Owasys, making the Spanish telematics specialist the first partner in a new approach to expanding Bosch Rexroth’s IoT and telematics portfolio. The companies have already worked together for more than five years on Open Linux-based platforms within Rexroth’s BODAS ecosystem.
The expanded partnership brings Owasys’ telematics gateways and device-management capabilities into the BODAS ecosystem. That gives manufacturers more options for connecting off-highway equipment while keeping the telematics hardware integrated with Bosch Rexroth’s existing mobile electronics and machine-control platform.
Remote access and diagnostics can help service teams investigate problems without immediately sending someone to the machine. Over-the-air (OTA) updates can also allow manufacturers to deploy software changes to electronic control units across machines without bringing every vehicle back for service.
Owasys will also introduce owaAMS, a management system designed to support remote access, diagnostics and OTA updates for Bosch Rexroth ECUs. Its existing owa4X and owa5X platforms provide rugged Linux-based connectivity hardware for off-highway applications.
For equipment manufacturers, the bigger change is flexibility. Instead of treating connectivity as a fixed feature installed at production, telematics becomes something that can be managed and updated throughout the machine’s working life. Bosch Rexroth has already taken a similar approach with its 2025 partnership with Trackunit around remote diagnostics and software updates.
The Owasys deal takes that strategy further. As off-highway machines become more software-driven, the ability to connect, diagnose and update them remotely is becoming part of the machine itself, not an add-on after the fact.
