Data centre operators are trying to add more power without adding more floor space. Socomec is targeting that constraint with its new DELPHYS XL+ high-power modular UPS.
The company says the system can reduce the operational footprint by up to 30% compared with mainstream UPS systems. According to the company , DELPHYS XL+ has a doorless configuration, removing the front clearance normally needed to open the UPS cabinet and carry out service work, making design suited to prefabricated data centres and power PODs, where every square metre has to be accounted for.
It also requires no rear or side clearance and does not use top-mounted fans, further reducing installation and maintenance constraints. The service model is another part of the design.
DELPHYS XL+ uses 125 kW hot-swappable power modules, allowing individual modules to be replaced without taking the entire UPS out of service. Socomec has also designed the system to minimise access requirements during maintenance, which can help reduce mean time to repair.
Using silicon carbide technology, the UPS can reach up to 98% efficiency in online double-conversion mode and up to 99% in Smart Conversion Mode, according to Socomec. The company says the system requires about 12% less cooling than the market average.
That matters as AI workloads push data centre power densities higher. AI infrastructure does not draw power in the same way as conventional workloads, creating more demanding and dynamic load profiles. Socomec says DELPHYS XL+ is designed to accommodate these changes while maintaining power stability and limiting the impact on upstream electrical infrastructure.
As data centres move toward prefabricated power blocks and higher-density AI deployments, the UPS is becoming part of the site’s space and deployment strategy, not just a backup power box.
