PIA Automation Steps Into the Humanoid Robot Business

Industrial automation specialist PIA Automation is making a structured move into humanoid robotics, setting up a dedicated business unit and a joint venture to back it.

The JV — called Joybot Manufacture — is built with Chinese robotics firm Agibot and will develop and produce adaptive humanoid systems for industrial use. PIA brings 1,800 employees and 12 global locations serving automotive, life sciences, electronics, and energy storage sectors to the table.

Three platforms define the initial lineup. I-Bot is designed for factory floors — mobile, capable of navigation, and targeting assembly and logistics tasks. P-Bot is built for customer-facing environments like retail and public spaces. A-Bot is aimed at research and education applications.

European manufacturing capacity is part of the plan, intended to shorten deployment timelines for regional customers.

The rationale isn’t complicated. Conventional automation handles repetition well but breaks down when production lines shift. PIA is positioning early. The Joybot JV gives it a development and production pathway beyond the reseller relationship.
