Founded in 2017 by Srinath Ravichandran, Moin SPM, Satyanarayanan Chakravarthy, and Janardhana Raju, Agnikul Cosmos Private Limited is headquartered at the National Centre for Combustion Research and Development (NCCRD), IIT Madras, in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India. The company designs, manufactures, tests, and launches orbital-class rockets for micro and nano satellites, aiming for affordable, on-demand access to space. Its flagship Agnibaan rocket, powered by the world's first single-piece 3D-printed semi-cryogenic Agnilet engine, can carry up to 300 kg to a 700 km orbit. Agnikul runs India's first private launchpad, Dhanush, at Satish Dhawan Space Centre, Sriharikota, and achieved a historic suborbital test flight (Agnibaan SOrTeD) on May 30, 2024. Having raised $42M across five funding rounds, including $26.7M in Series B (2023), and backed by ISRO and IN-SPACe, Agnikul aims for 35-40 commercial launches a year by 2026, targeting the $3.5B small satellite market.
