What Happened Ion Exchange has signed a technology transfer agreement with Germany’s MANN+HUMMEL to manufacture PVDF ultrafiltration membranes locally. Production will run at Ion Exchange’s HYDRAMEM facility in Goa, covering UF membranes, integrated UltraSKID systems, and eventual MBR solution transfers to India.
Context Ion Exchange set up a reverse osmosis membrane plant in Goa in 2017 under Make in India. The expanded facility will now serve both domestic and export markets. Applications span industrial and municipal water purification and wastewater treatment. The deal broadens Ion Exchange’s technology stack across UF, RO, and MBR segments.
Why It Matters Water treatment infrastructure depends heavily on imported membrane technology , a vulnerability that’s been exposed repeatedly. Local manufacturing addresses both availability and lead time.
Our Take This is a supply chain resilience play. Membrane technology manufactured domestically means faster procurement, reduced forex exposure, and stronger positioning for India’s expanding municipal water treatment pipeline. The MANN+HUMMEL name also adds global credibility to what Ion Exchange brings to market.
