The former chief research officer at OpenAI, is raising $70 million for a new artificial intelligence startup focused on transforming manufacturing,
The startup called Arda is developing an AI and software platform, including a video model that analyzes footage from factories and then uses it to train robots to run plants autonomously. Its AI platform will help factories and production cycles operate more autonomously, coordinating machines and human workers, and enhancing manufacturing efficiency.
Arda’s software on the other hand will coordinate machines and humans across the production process, from product design and manufacturability to finished goods. The system uses those visual insights to train robotic systems to handle physical manufacturing jobs autonomously. The platform coordinates both machines and human workers across the entire production cycle from early design to final assembly.
Arda aims to make manufacturing more economically viable in Western countries – which would interest some to set and scale and help shift some of the manufacturing away from China.
Bob McGrew spent 8 years at OpenAI teaching robots physical tasks and is joined by veterans from Adept AI and Palantir.
