ABB launches Remote Assistance for Metal Industry

In a move towards AI drive predictive remote maintenance and support offering , ABB has launched remote support for Stressometer systems – a solution designed to help customers with operational challenges and breakdowns in metal production.

Stressometer is a flatness system – a  measurement and control system from ABB for steel, aluminium, copper and other metal strips and foils.

What are flatness systems.

For people familiar to the metal industry, the Flatness systems which are at the centre of contribution operational stability of the product produced. These are in advanced measurement and control technologies that the metal industry relies on to ensure the surface is uniform so that the product be it rolled metal sheets or plates etc that be made without defect or any kind of abnormality like buckle or uneven edges. These have a direct impact on keeping the failure rate in check by optimising quality, keeping structural integrity intact .

This is what determines how effectively the metal mill is able to control wastage and aid throughput in downstream processing .

Why is remote assistance needed?

ABB in its move wants the industry at large to treat preventive monitoring and performance management as a way to avoid slowly building breakdown. Through the remote assistance service rollout it wants to be up close to the manufacturing line where user can decide to loop in the expert who carries deep domain, product and service experience and can bring in quicker troubleshooting and aid optimisation needed to avoid so buildup of deviations which can lead to a major disruption later.

The same is available on a tiered service contract from ABB is   IEC 62443-4-1 compliant MicroPC-based solution, fully managed by ABB and built on an ISO 9001:2015 certified software platform.
