For industrial coating applications, the finish directly links to the quality of delivery which inturn determines consistency. When flow and/or pressure or material volume changes, coating thickness and surface appearance and/or the stability of the process can change. Therefore, dosing technology isn’t just a tool in the automated coating line, but a super important quality driver.
The new EcoPump GW iD from Dürr is based to help reliably provide it.
The gear-type metering pump has been designed for general industrial coating applications in most of the 1K and 2K coatings available, and the emphasis has been placed on accurate material delivery, easier system integration and maintenance. Dürr offers 5 different pump sizes, ranging from 90 ml/min to 900 ml/min, and with a maximum fluid pressure of 20 bar, and a stated dosing accuracy of ±2%.
The intriguing aspect is the integration of the pump into a larger coating systems. The EcoPump GW iD is not a standalone dosing unit, but rather it can be combined with Dürr’s Fluid Board2, a compact platform designed to combine paint dosing, colour change and other fluid handling functions. The Fluid Board2 comes ready assembled, minimizing on-site integration tasks.
Another focus is on durability. Hardened stainless-steel parts with hardened carbon (DLC) coating have been used in the pump, which is expected to minimize friction and wear. Optional elements include pressure sensors, a pressure regulator, bypass function and a purging block, which can be used to adjust the set-up to various coating processes.
The reality for manufacturers is not so much that they’re adding another machine, but that they’re getting their paint-delivery process to be more consistent and predictable. Correct dosing will ensure constant coating quality, minimize material usage and ensure easy maintenance.
The pump also can be retrofitted to existing applications, providing a method for upgrading the performance of the dosing system without necessarily redesigning an entire paint system.
This adaptability may prove to be especially valuable when industrial coating processes transition to more automated, smaller and repeatable production systems.
