Data centre growth in India has been making headlines , it is also driving the need for an often talked aspect of high density computing, infrastructure to ensure that such systems function reliably. Cooling is one of the most important components of that infrastructure and suppliers are increasingly seeking to develop that capacity nearer to the market, with FläktGroup’s new manufacturing plant in Pune being a good example.
Project GAGAN is an investment of €5.7 million to reinforce FläktGroup’s manufacturing presence in India, with the new Pune facility marking the latest milestone in the project. The site covers an area of approximately 13,826 m² and over 12,000 m² is used for production. Once it’s fully operational, it is supposed to produce as many as 6,500 units per year.
The plant will manufacture equipment such as Air Handling Units (AHUs), Fan Wall Units (FWUs), CRAH and CRAC systems, Coolant Distribution Units (CDUs) and heating and cooling coils. It’s especially significant in data centres, where cooling needs are increasing as the density of computing increases.
The plant will supply customers in India and global markets throughout Asia and Southeast Asia, says FläktGroup. Its placement is also designed to make it easier for the supply chain to respond, reduce lead times and increase the level of customization for customers.
Its local manufacturing approach is important in a field with potentially brief project timelines. As data-centre operators and industrial customers increasingly demand flexibility in cooling systems that can be tailored to the site’s specific needs and requirements.
In addition, Pune makes strategic sense. The city is located in a large manufacturing ecosystem with access to manufacturing talent, supply-chain networks and infrastructure.
