Bharat Forge’s aerospace division inaugurated a landing gear components machining facility in Mundhwa, Pune, developed in partnership with Liebherr-Aerospace. The facility positions Bharat Forge among the first companies in India operating OEM-approved machining capabilities for critical landing gear components at industrial scale.
Equipped with next-generation machining centers and precision engineering technologies, the plant will manufacture high-precision landing gear components for global aerospace programs. Landing gear components require extremely high manufacturing accuracy and strict quality standards—historically a capability concentrated in Europe and North America.
The facility strengthens Bharat Forge’s aerospace portfolio, which already spans aero-engine components, airframe structures, and landing gear sub-systems for civil and military aviation. The company produces turbine and compressor parts, forged rings, shafts, discs, and structural elements. Bharat Forge is also establishing an advanced aerospace ring-mill in India to produce high-value forged rings for aero-engine programs.
The partnership reflects broader trends in aerospace supply chain diversification. As global air travel returns to peak levels, aircraft manufacturers increasingly look beyond traditional supply bases to reduce concentration risk and access new manufacturing capacity.
For Liebherr-Aerospace, the collaboration provides access to India’s engineering workforce and industrial infrastructure while expanding its global manufacturing footprint. The facility was designed to meet the demanding requirements of the global aerospace industry, incorporating standards that enable integration into international aircraft programs.
