NY based frontier AI company Emergence is establishing a dedicated research facility in Bengaluru focused exclusively on autonomous agent development. The lab, positioned near the Indian Institute of Science, marks a strategic bet on India’s capacity to lead in next-generation AI infrastructure.
The facility will concentrate on building systems capable of managing mission-critical digital operations—from financial networks to telecom platforms and cloud infrastructure. Emergence views this as foundational before extending into robotics and advanced manufacturing sectors.
With an initial investment running into tens of millions of dollars, the company plans to scale the lab to 500 research scientists and engineers over three to four years. A professor from IISc joins as Chief Scientist while maintaining his academic role, creating bridge between industry and academia.
