Festo Opens Bengaluru GCC, Marking a Strategic Shift in Its India Play

German automation major Festo has inaugurated its first Global Capability Centre in Bengaluru — a 71,000 square foot facility located near Electronics City — with plans to grow the workforce there to over 600 professionals.

Festo, a family-owned company headquartered in Esslingen am Neckar with over 20,000 employees globally, entered India in 1963 and formally incorporated here in 1986. Today it serves customers and institutions across the country, spanning sectors from automotive and electronics to food processing and pharmaceuticals. Their latest move signals a repositioning for India, from a sales and production base into a core part of Festo’s global innovation structure.

The Bengaluru centre has already onboarded over 100 engineers in its first year of operation and is currently home to around 250 professionals. The roles being built out span advanced engineering, software development, AI and machine learning, data analytics, product security, and global process optimisation. The company has flagged roles like data scientists, embedded AI specialists, and full-stack developers as priority hires as it looks to double its India-based headcount.

The timing lines up with broader shifts in how European manufacturers are thinking about India. Recent progress in India-EU trade , agreement with the European Free Trade Association have added momentum to European investment decisions. For Festo specifically, the GCC also serves a strategic internal purpose — the company is working to transition its identity from a pneumatics and hardware player to a software-driven automation company, and Bengaluru’s engineering talent pool is central to that shift.

The facility will support work on predictive and prescriptive analytics, autonomous systems, and product security — capabilities that are becoming increasingly important as factories across Festo’s global customer base .
