An addition to its industrial automation portfolio. It adds integrated safety, cybersecurity and enhanced performance. The new controller addresses the needs of machine builders and manufacturers.
As industrial systems become more connected, cyber security and operational safety are growing concerns for manufacturers, and the launch is in response. That’s the goal Rockwell is aiming to achieve with the CompactLogix 5390, which also brings these features together in a single platform, the company says, to help make machine design easier and meet evolving regulatory standards.
One of the major attributes of the controller is its reduced footprint. It is 43% smaller than the previous CompactLogix 5380 controllers, which enables manufacturers to cut down on control panel space and rely on more standardised designs for various machine models.
The controller also includes local PointMax I/O, which enables machine builders to build more modular automation systems. It is also compatible with the cybersecurity standard IEC 62443-4-2, and the design also accounts for the European Union’s Cyber Resilience Act.
Machine builders have to constantly balance performance with increased safety and cybersecurity requirements,, the CompactLogix 5390 combines these functions to meet those demands without excess complexity.
The controller is a part of Rockwell Automation’s Integrated Architecture ecosystem and integrates with Rockwell Automation’s PointMax I/O, Kinetix motion systems, PowerFlex drive and Stratix networking technologies. It also enables FactoryTalk Design Studio and other visualisation solutions integration.
