Tata Power Bets on Databricks to Build Its AI Backbone

Tata Power has moved to standardise its data and AI infrastructure on the Databricks platform. Enterprise-wide adoption is designed to replace fragmented analytics systems with a single, unified foundation capable of handling data at scale. The aim is to process near real-time insights across Tata Power’s diverse business clusters — spanning renewable energy, smart grids, solar manufacturing, rooftop solar, and a growing B2C portfolio.

Now the  platform will support intelligent grid management, better power planning, improved billing and collection, accurate renewable energy forecasting, and a more seamless customer experience. It also sets the stage for next-generation AI applications, including self-service analytics and what the company describes as “talk-to-data” capabilities — letting employees query enterprise data in natural language.

A key part of that is Databricks’ AI agent called Genie, which allows employees to interact directly with internal data through a natural language interface and get trusted outputs quickly, this democratises data access across the organisation and improves efficiency.

Tata Power has a power portfolio of over 16 GW and has committed to reaching Net Zero before 2045. The Databricks collaboration is framed as central to that transition — tying data infrastructure directly to the company’s renewable integration and clean energy ambitions.
