Synopsys (NASDAQ: SNPS), the chip design and electronic design automation (EDA) leader, has announced the appointment of Peter A. Shimer to its board of directors, effective February 19, 2026. Shimer will also serve on the board’s audit committee.
Shimer spent four decades at Deloitte, one of the world’s largest professional services firms, holding multiple executive roles including Chief Financial Officer, Chief Operating Officer, and interim Chief Executive Officer — a role he was unanimously selected for in 2022 and 2023. During his tenure on Deloitte’s executive committee, the firm’s annual revenue grew by over 135% to reach $30 billion. Beyond his corporate career, Shimer currently chairs the executive committee of the Cancer Artificial Intelligence Alliance (CAIA), a consortium of four leading academic medical centres working on AI-powered cancer research.
Sassine Ghazi, President and CEO of Synopsys, described Shimer as someone with deep expertise in advising on strategy, financials, and corporate governance. Shimer himself noted that the timing is exciting, given the rapid shift across industries toward silicon-powered, software-defined, and AI-enhanced systems — areas where Synopsys plays a central role.
With the Ansys integration progressing and its silicon-to-systems platform expanding, Synopsys is clearly building a board equipped for its next chapter of growth.
