Luminous Power Technologies has inaugurated its first lithium-ion battery assembly line at Baddi, Himachal Pradesh, marking an important step in strengthening India’s energy storage manufacturing capabilities. The facility aligns with the company’s strategy to expand advanced energy storage solutions and adopt next-generation manufacturing practices.
Capacity and Automation
The new assembly line has a production capacity of 500 MWh and integrates advanced robotic automation with precision-led manufacturing processes. This setup is designed to ensure consistent quality, safety, and performance across lithium-ion battery packs, reinforcing Luminous’ position in the energy storage segment.
Rajiv Ganju, Senior Vice President – Manufacturing and Global Supply Chain, highlighted manufacturing as a core pillar of the company’s strategy, stating that the facility strengthens integrated manufacturing and global supply chain capabilities while reinforcing a focus on precision, localisation, and future-ready operations.
Wide Application Coverage
The facility can manufacture three categories of products:
- Standalone lithium-ion battery packs
- Stationary Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS)
- Automotive battery packs for e-rickshaw applications
Battery pack capacities range from 1.2 kWh to 16 kWh, with system-level scalability extending up to 1 MWh. This enables deployment across residential, commercial, industrial, and electric mobility applications.
The investment reflects confidence in India’s growing energy storage market and positions the facility to scale alongside evolving demand. As India accelerates its clean energy transition, facilities like this play a critical role in building domestic manufacturing depth in energy storage.
