K-Tech and Aurora Form Joint Venture for 500 MW AI Data Centers in Alberta

K-Tech Solutions and Aurora AZ Energy formed a joint venture to develop large-scale AI and high-performance computing infrastructure in Alberta, Canada, powered by wellhead natural gas. The partnership targets an initial 100 megawatts of IT capacity with potential expansion up to 500 MW.

Under the agreement, Aurora will supply power-rich data center sites sourced from its wellhead energy portfolio, while K-Tech leads design, development, and operations of the computing facilities. The parties will deploy purpose-built, high-density data centers optimized for crypto mining, AI training and inference, and compute-intensive workloads.

The joint venture launches at Aurora’s flagship site in Alberta, with site work expected to begin in September 2026 and initial computing capacity projected online in Q2 2027. Beyond this initial deployment, K-Tech and Aurora plan to evaluate additional sites across Aurora’s broader energy portfolio, which encompasses over 20 active locations across Alberta.

The partnership addresses a growing infrastructure challenge: as AI models and HPC workloads become increasingly power-intensive, scalable and cost-effective energy sources become critical constraints. By sourcing power directly from wellhead natural gas, the venture aims to reduce energy costs while reducing gas flaring at production sites.

Hong Kong-based K-Tech Solutions specializes in high-performance computing infrastructure, though the company was originally founded in 2016 as a toy product developer. Calgary-based Aurora AZ Energy, incorporated in 2023, focuses on wellhead natural gas power solutions designed to support high-density computing applications.
